About me

I have been doing this work for over ten years and for most of that time I have been in therapy myself in addition to the supervision requirements of my professional bodies (UKCP/ BACP Accredited) . So I understand the difficulty sometimes of getting to therapy and finding the words. My presence is one of warm acceptance, reassurance and gentle curiosity. I try as carefully as I can to listen and understand at a deeper level what might not be able to be said. Together we create a space and a relationship that I hope feels safe, honest and considered and offers you support and relief. I am from an arts and education background and have a lot of life experience to bring to my work as well as a very grounded and experiential training.

My approach to individual therapy

Well-documented is the importance of the alliance between client and therapist. From a Gestalt relational perspective, this relationship is one of equality and respectfulness, under-pinned by the desire to explore together the richness and complexity of our human experience whilst also taking account of the environmental and social contexts in which we are 'doing therapy'. I am interested in how your experience and mine can be used to increase your awareness of yourself and to explore what is hidden or out of reach for you. I am also a 'climate aware' therapist and a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance. This helps me to work not only with grief pertaining to an individual's loss but also to the magnitude of loss attached to climate and biodiversity.

Our first individual session

In our first session I will listen to your concerns and take a brief history. Typically it will be an information gathering session after which we will be able to make a decision about going forwards. I hope you will get a sense of what it might be like to work with me and I will know whether I can help. If I can't, I will try to offer suggestions for where you might find that help. It is also my intention to give some space to your story as I know you may have been holding that story for a long time.
