About me

Hello I’m Andrew and I’m a registered psychotherapist. I became a therapist because I had a helpful experience of therapy myself. After a period of unfulfilling personal and professional relationships my self-esteem was low and I felt stuck. Looking for new experiences, I started therapy more out of curiosity than hope. The relationship I formed with my therapist provided a good enough balance of support and challenge to see myself in a different light. I started to see new potentials for change. Motivated to realign myself more closely with my personal values, my relationships started to deepen and I found more satisfying work. A few years later, I retrained as a therapist. For 15 years now I’ve provided therapy for adults with diverse issues and backgrounds in the NHS and privately. I work in London and my professional body is UKCP

My approach to individual therapy

I am an integrative psychotherapist. What do I mean by integrative? Well, for over 50 years now it's been consistently shown that there is no overall 'best therapy'. What works for one person does not necessarily work for another, even if their issues are similar. You might have heard about psychoanalysis, humanistic therapy, or . These are just a few of a number of therapeutic approaches that each offer different potentials for change. Integrative therapy brings together these different approaches and tailors them to meet your individual needs. There are no short cuts or quick fixes for longstanding mental health concerns. Time-limited work can be useful for some specific issues; however, this works best within the context of longer-term therapy. I work in an open-ended way with periodic reviews.

Our first individual session

You might be asking, "how do I choose the right therapist?" Try to think about it this way: figuring out who to work with is where therapy begins. Arranging one-off meetings with a few therapists will help you both identify a therapist and discover what you want in therapy. For this reason, our first session will be a two-way exchange to see how we connect and what working together is like. I will be curious about who you are and what brings you into therapy in a way that feels natural and comfortable. You are welcome to ask questions about me too if you want. If you find something becomes difficult to talk about we can pause and choose whether to pick it up again later. We’ll work at a speed that suits you. To help you find the right therapist, I only charge for the initial meeting if we agree to work together.
