About me
I am a qualified and experienced psychodynamic counsellor and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I have my own consulting room in London SE1 where I see people of all backgrounds with a wide range of difficulties which they are facing. Some of these difficulties may include anxiety, difficulty in social situations, relationship problems, depression, eating disorders, traumatic experiences, or just an everyday sense of not feeling fulfilled and that something is missing in life. Psychotherapy aims at helping a person to come to understand themselves better so that they can make thoughtful and helpful choices for themselves in order to live their life more fully.
My approach to individual therapy
I offer one to one in person therapy sessions. Sometimes this can feel daunting if you haven’t had any therapy before. I aim to create a calm and safe environment where you can speak freely about anything that is on your mind however painful or disturbing it may feel for you. You will not be judged for anything that you bring. I am able to hear and hold very difficult issues that you may have. It is important that you attend therapy at least once every week, and some people would benefit from two or more sessions per week. We will discuss this at an initial consultation. Once a week is the minimum and it is necessary to help develop a therapeutic alliance. All sessions are 50 minutes in length
Our first individual session
At your first session, I will ask more questions than I would usually. I try to get a feel for your difficulties and I will ask you about childhood experiences and memories as well as current concerns. I will also explain about the therapeutic contract if you would like to move forward with regular sessions. Sometimes it’s necessary to have a couple of initial sessions before you decide if you’d like to go ahead with regular therapy. You are not obliged to do so if you feel I’m not the right person for you.
