About me
Sometimes it can be difficult to reach out for help, it can even be difficult to accept that help is available and to believe that things can change. I have lots of experience and many years of training to draw on – it is unlikely I won’t be familiar with the difficulty that brings you here. Psychotherapy is a chance to begin the process of living the life you want. It offers a chance to explore what is happening and to gain insight into your responses and whether these still serve you. My approach is tailored to your needs, drawing on a range of psychotherapy models to enable us to work deeply and relationally on the difficulties you face. Together we will seek to build your understanding and awareness in order to shift unhelpful patterns of relating to yourself, to others and to the situations and challenges you face.
My approach to individual therapy
People come to therapy for any and all reasons. I like to be curious with you and to encourage you to be curious about your life. Together we can explore your concerns and questions. Therapy is weekly, sessions last 50 minutes and are at the same time every week. I work on an open-ended basis but you can also ask to see me for a specific number of sessions. This could be particularly useful and effective for specific issues such as following a major life event.
Our first individual session
Starting therapy involves getting to know one another and developing a working relationship where you feel able to be open and trusting. This can take time so it is important that we allow the first few sessions to be an opportunity to ensure we are good match. You are of course free to stop therapy at any time. To support you to get started it is usually helpful to have the first session and then decide on the next steps. For more information about me and how I work please see my website.
