About me
Hello, I am Shauna.
I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist which means that my approach is based on the belief that the past can help us understand the present. We all have learned many ways of trying to survive in the world, and these coping strategies can be very present at times, which may be why you wish to seek help now. They can also be kept well hidden from others or even ourselves. By working with me, we can uncover them and work together to understand why and how they manifest and their impact on our emotional and relational life.
I began my career as an Occupational Psychologist, working globally with individuals, teams and organisations. I then retrained as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist to offer more in-depth support to help individuals understand and work with the root causes of emotional and relational issues.
My approach to individual therapy
I have experience supporting individuals with a range of challenges, including neurodiversity, depression, anxiety, identity, self-confidence and self-esteem, relationship difficulties, loss, parenting and pregnancy-related concerns.
I offer a warm, open, and compassionate space where we can explore the issues at hand, as well as the underlying patterns. My approach is non-directive and to work with you to help you uncover the patterns and the solutions that will work for you.
I believe that each person is unique. While we may share similar experiences, we internalise and process them in our own individual ways.
Our first individual session
In the first session, we will spend time understanding your history from the very beginning. We will look at your family of origin - your parents, siblings and other significant individuals. We will look at school, work and current relationships. This may take longer than the first session, as we start to build a picture of you. We may also look at your sexual intimacy as well as your dreams.
As we work through this time line we might start to notice some common themes and patterns that are impacting on you currently. We may also start to notice how you interact with me as way of understanding your internal world.
