About me

My life and practice are greatly enriched by many cultural influences outside of the realm of psychotherapy, and I feel that the arts, philosophy, and literature all have great value in helping us to understand what it is to struggle, suffer, strive and thrive as human beings. Professional experience: For many years I worked for the mental health charity MIND. Reduced fee therapy to National Theatre staff. Working with boarding school survivors. Running an NHS psychotherapy service. Psychoeducation - Network Rail and FPC.

My approach to individual therapy

My approach is profoundly collaborative - i.e. our work will not be something 'done to' you, but is instead an experience that we embark upon together. My practice is deeply rooted within the psychodynamic tradition, but I consider myself to be pluralistic in my thinking and draw from other disciplines, be they cognitive therapies, family systems, attachment theory and neuroscience. What never ceases to amaze me is the resilience of the human spirit; with the right support, I believe positive change is possible.

Our first individual session

During our first 50 minute meeting, I will invite you to talk with me about what has prompted you to seek therapy. I will also be very interested in and curious to find out about your history. Some clients find this initial meeting daunting, which is very understandable, given that it is a brave step even to admit you may want or need help. Hopefully this meeting will help calm and clarify your thinking and once I know a little about you, we can contemplate what the best way forward may be for you.
